Since so many
people seem to be have questions about Handspring's service I
figured I would relate my experience so far with ordering and
receiving my Visor. I ordered a
Visor Deluxe (graphite), serial cradle, and the Visor Stylus
5-Pack, back a couple of months ago through Handspring's web
ordering system. It gave me the standard 4-6 weeks till
delivery.

Four weeks
and one day later I received my Visor Deluxe, the Stylus 5-Pack,
and a note saying the serial cradle was back-ordered. This is
somewhat of an inconvenience, since my laptop is NT and my desktop
is Mac, neither currently has a USB port. But that is no big deal,
yet, since I'm a first time PDA user and need to get use to the
basic functionality.
My first
impression of the Visor is that it is a well-designed and
constructed unit. With anything constructed of plastic I always see
how much twist, flex and bend the item has. The Visor has none. It
has a very rock solid feel about it.

I've read
elsewhere on the net that some folks have had problems with the
cover. As in figuring out how to detach it and how to re-attach it.
I found the design of the cover to be straightforward and
the process of removing the cover and re-attaching it to be simple.
I really like the ability to attach the cover to the bottom of the
Visor for storage. Though, I wonder how some of the Springboard
modules will affect this feature.
Some
additional observations, the keys all feel very solid and provide
excellent tactile feedback. The screen is sharp and very readable.
And the back light feature is usable.
For those of
you that bought the Stylus 5-Pack, they have some interesting
features of their own. If you unscrew the point of the stylus, it
just happens to have a pointer attached that is just the right size
to fit the reset hole. So no need to scrounge around for a small
paper clip. If you unscrew the top of any of the styluses you will
find a small Philips screw driver that just happens to fit the
four Philips screws (two are in the Springboard slot) that hold
the Visor together. I thought both of these items were a nice
touch.
Overall, I
found dealing with Handspring to be very enjoyable. The primary
items were delivered on-time and with no hassles. They appear to
have a high quality product for a reasonable price. I would
recommend this company and product to anybody thinking about buying
a PDA.
